Locksmithing - Jacksons Padlock

About this workshop
This is a workshop experience like no other. Participants will make their own brass padlock and cut their own key using original techniques and hand tools that have not changed since the early 1800s. Using parts made by Australia’s oldest operating lock manufacturer, Jacksons of Launceston, participants will mark out, hand drill and file a working lock. Once the components are ready, the next step is to hand cut a key to suit. This step uses skills that are slowly becoming lost in the Locksmithing trade with the ever-increasing use of technology.
