Centre for Rare Arts and Forgotten Trades acknowledges the Wadawurrung people as the Traditional custodians of the land on which we operate. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to all of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live and work on Wadawurrung Country. We acknowledge their unceded sovereignty over Wadawurrung Country, and the ongoing hardship and trauma as a result of colonisation. The history and continuous culture of the Wadawurrung people is an important part of our shared story.

About this workshopInformed by the Lorna Clarke Collection held in the RMIT Design Archives, this session will explore the designs reflective of the silhouette, details, materials and colours popular in the 1940s.Students will be introduced to the use of blocks in developing patterns translating design ideas from fashion illustrations to the finished garment.At the end of the session, participants will have created a suite of pattern drafts and pieces inspired by the vintage Lorna Clark designs.

Workshop appropriate - comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.

Medium class size – max 10 participants.

All instruction and materials included. Use of scaled blocks for drafting patterns.

Learn how to use blocks in developing a pattern based on a fashion illustration, and how to manipulate darts and pleats to shape the final garment.

Breaks occur at morning tea and lunch. Morning tea provided. Lunch available for pre-ordering.
