Centre for Rare Arts and Forgotten Trades acknowledges the Wadawurrung people as the Traditional custodians of the land on which we operate. About this workshop
Bring out your inner Viking in this full-day spear-making experience with armourer, Rob Hayes.
Throughout human history, the spear has been prolific in hunting and warfare. It holds a prominent place in our cultural memory, from Homer’s epics to the Viking sagas and Medieval legends. In this full-day workshop, you will learn to make a historical Viking or Medieval spearhead in a traditional style using traditional forging techniques such as forge welding. You will forge your spear with a blunt tip like those used at reenactment events. At the end of the workshop, you will take your spear home with you.

Some blacksmithing experience required

Snacks, lunch, water bottle, notepad and pen

Workshop appropriate – closed toe shoes, hair tied back, no hanging jewellery, no baggy or flowing clothing.

Small class size – max 6 participants

All instruction, tools and materials provided

In this workshop, you will learn to make a Viking spear using traditional techniques such as forge welding.
