Knitwear Care & Repair 101

Bring new life to your jumpers, cardigans, beanies, scarves, socks and other knitwear in this exclusive Rare Trades Centre experience with Modern Mending author Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald.

Erin will teach you multiple ways to revive your winter woollies: darning holes and reinforcing threadbare areas, fixing ladders (aka dropped stitches), smoothing out snags, and de-fuzzing your favourite cosy pieces. You'll also learn laundry, storage and moth-prevention tips. You will be working with contrasting yard colours in this session for easier learning, but the techniques can be applied to invisible mending later on.

BYO sad socks for mending practice, and any knitwear requiring a bit of TLC. Items with minimal damage can be repaired on the day; students can practise and prep to work on big jobs after the session. Students will each receive a copy of Modern Mending the book, a knitted practice swatch and essential mending supplies; additional mending supplies will be available for purchase on the day (BYO mending pile for colour matching).
