Centre for Rare Arts and Forgotten Trades acknowledges the Wadawurrung people as the Traditional custodians of the land on which we operate. We acknowledge their unceded sovereignty over Wadawurrung Country, and the ongoing hardship and trauma as a result of colonisation. The history and continuous culture of the Wadawurrung people is an important part of our shared story.

About this workshopHave you every wished you could capture the delicate textures of a leaf or the intricate form of a seedpod in silver? In this full-day workshop you'll discover how to do exactly that using Art Clay Silver, a material developed in Japan that works like soft clay but fires into solid fine silver.Under the guidance of jeweller Rachel Grose you will begin by exploring texture and form through a botanical theme using collected leaves, flowers and seedpods to imprint detailed patterns and to create moulds that you then use to form the clay before torch-firing your pieces. Through the morning you will create a pendant and pair of earrings; by the afternoon you will be developing your own designs - experimenting, refining and playing with the process with Rachel's support and encouragement.

Instruction and all materials; some written resources

In this workshop, you will gain an introduction to metal clay and basic modelling skills, as well as methods for firing and finishing completed pieces.
