Centre for Rare Arts and Forgotten Trades acknowledges the Wadawurrung people as the Traditional custodians of the land on which we operate. About this workshopBaby, it's cold outside! What better way to warm up than by discovering the intricacies and delights of traditional lost wax casting with artisan Rachel Grose? Over two days you will be immersed in a centuries-old technique still used by jewellers, artisans and sculptors around the world. This is an opportunity to experience the entire process from start to finish - something rarely offered in a classroom setting. You will learn wax carving techniques, then preparing your pieces for casting and creating a mould. On Day 2 you will be introduced to a centrifugal casting machine and melt and pour silver into your mould, experiencing the transformation process firsthand.Then you will finish your cast pieces - cleaning, polishing and refining them into beautiful wearable jewellery.

Workshop appropriate - comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, no hanging jewellery, hair tied back.

Small class size – max 8 participants

All instruction and materials included.

Learn basic wax carving techniques, creating a sand mould and preparing pieces for casting; smelting silver and pouring the cast; cleaning and polishing the cast pieces and refining them into a piece of jewellery.

Breaks occur at morning tea and lunch. Morning tea provided. Lunch available for pre-ordering.
