Centre for Rare Arts and Forgotten Trades acknowledges the Wadawurrung people as the Traditional custodians of the land on which we operate. About this workshop
Learn to make an underbust corset with Catherine Irving of Crystal Pegasus Costumes. In this 3-day workshop, you will learn to fit and sew a single layer underbust corset. The corsets will be made from luxurious Spot Broche Coutil (a fabric designed for corsetry), and include a split busk at the centre front, back lacing, flat steel bones at the front and back, and spiral steel or synthetic whalebone bones at the sides (as per student preferences). At the end of the workshop, you will take home a custom fitted corset and a pattern adjusted to your measurements.

Students must be able to competently use a sewing machine – this is not a beginner sewing class. If you can comfortably sew a tote bag or a basic skirt in non-stretch fabric using a sewing machine then you are ready for this class.

Snacks, lunch, water bottle, notepad and pen.

Comfortable clothes and closed toed shoes. When we do the fittings, students should wear or bring a well-fitting bra and close-fitting singlet, slip or similar. If pants or skirts are worn, please ensure that they do not dig in or have a bulky waistband.

In this workshop, you will learn to adjust a pattern to fit your measurements and cut, sew and fit a corset toile.
